How to Choose the Right Bike

A quick guide to choosing between commuter and cargo e-bikes based on how you plan to ride.

Picking the right e-bike comes down to how you plan to ride. Here are the key questions to think through — and remember, your dealer's team is there to help you figure this out in person.

What will you use it for?

Start with your primary use case:

  • Commuting — If most of your rides are getting to and from work, a commuter bike is likely the best fit. They're lighter, nimbler, and designed for daily rides through city streets.

  • Family and errands — If you're hauling kids to school, loading up groceries, or replacing car trips, a cargo bike gives you the carrying capacity to make it work. Longtail models can fit child seats, and front-loaders offer even more cargo space.

  • A bit of everything — Some bikes split the difference well. Talk to your dealer about models that handle both commuting and light cargo duty.

Where will you store it?

E-bikes are heavier than traditional bikes, and cargo bikes are larger than commuters. If you're carrying it up stairs, storing it in a tight apartment, or parking in a small space, size and weight matter. A commuter bike will be easier to maneuver in tight spots. Some models also have removable batteries, which makes charging more flexible if you can't park near an outlet.

The best way to decide: ride one

Specs and descriptions only go so far. The best way to know if a bike is right for you is to ride it. Visit your local Friiway dealer for a test ride — they'll help you try different models and find the one that fits your life. See Test Rides for how to set one up.

Not sure? You can always swap.

One of the best things about subscribing is that you're not locked in. If you start with a commuter and realize you need a cargo bike (or the other way around), you can swap to a different model during your subscription. See Swapping Your Bike for details.

Available models vary by dealer. Visit your dealer's page on friiway.com to see what's in stock, or stop by for a test ride.
